Christoph Blawert (German, 1981) lives and works in Antwerp. Blawert’s paintings appear to be an eclectic overview of art history: surrealism meets the criteria of pointillism, kitsch compares itself with the classical still-life or landscape. His works are imbued with references and symbols, with strange and humorous figures. Blawert’s ambiguity, hovering between art and entertainment, stance and style, juxtaposes small stories with the big and familiar ones, resulting in poetically exaggerated representations. His work was shown previously at LANGart in 2007 and 2009. In 2010, he completed studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg under Norbert Schwontkowski.
This exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Produzentengalerie Hamburg.
